History of American National Bank of Fremont

Chartered on December 22, 1982,  American National Bank of Fremont was formed by fifteen area businessmen looking to expand banking services to Fremont and the surrounding communities.

In April of 1983,  the bank opened temporary headquarters at 502 North Broad in a remodeled gas station.  Approximately one year later, the bank moved into its current main bank facility at 99 West 6th, formerly the location of Hotel Pathfinder, which had been built in 1917.

In July of 1986, Doug Heim became president of American National Bank of Fremont.  A new branch office at 23rd & Nye Avenue was opened in 1990.

Eight years later, another group of local investors purchased the bank, reaffirming its commitment to hometown banking with a special emphasis on service to small business.  Led by longtime Fremont businessman Dick Wikert, the group included David Monke, Russ Peterson Jr. and Wilson Persinger.  Heim retained his interest and position with the bank as did Wendell Bruner, one of the bank’s original directors.  Soon after, Fremonters Tom Thomsen, Steve Navarrette, John Sajevic and Scott Meister joined the bank as new directors.

Steady growth inspired the new board to double the size of the main bank facility and add an office in northeast Fremont as well.  A branch office was opened at 23rd & Lincoln Avenue in 2003, offering extended banking hours and housing the bank’s investment center, American Financial Advisors.

Effective January 1, 2010, Doug Heim became Chief Executive Officer, and Scott Meister, was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer.
